THE PTU TRANSFER CASE IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND WILL COST ALMOST AS MUCH AS THE CAR IS WORTH. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM DUE TO THE DESIGN THAT MAZDA HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND RECALL FOR MANY YEARS NOW.
