Mercedes Benz E320 year 1994. Mechanic says I have a defective engine harness. Car sparks and caught fire once when started. This is becoming a very common problems in mercedes sold around the year 1994.

    1995-03-15Electrical system95V031000 The front passenger metal foot rest can, over time, abrade through the wiring harness under the foot rest causing the wiring harness to short circuit.

    Remedy: Dealers will install additional wiring harness cable fastener ties and edge protective covering for sharp edges of the metal foot rest.
