The gas gauge is not dependable. Sometimes accurate, but more often, not accurate. It is a continuous problem. You may run out of gas at any moment, in traffic, on the interstate at high speeds, then you have no steering or brakes, engine is dead.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet truck with a 4.3 liter V6 engine and a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 HD with a 6.0 liter V8 engine and both of them have fuel gauge problems. The fuel gauge is very erratic and hardly ever accurate.

2006-10-18Fuel system, gasoline06E043000 Certain replacement fuel filters, fram brand name p/n G3727, with date codes X52911 through X60801 sequentially or X600141 and a mexico country or origin marking on the fuel filter housing…
Remedy: Honeywell will notify owners and replace the fuel filters free of charge. The recall began on October 18, 2006. Owners may contact fram customer service at 1-800-890-2075 (Option 1).
